In Financial Services Technology by Matsco Engineering Team

Meet Eva Zhao, Head of Account Management in Hong Kong.

Q:  What do you believe is the most significant barrier for women in leadership?

A: Women’s individual mindsets and lack of management support. Matsco’s active management support has been crucial in giving me the opportunities to develop my leadership capabilities. They have also provided me access to mentors who advocate my talents and potential.

Q:  What are some strategies that can help women achieve a more prominent role in the organization?

A: Decide what your career is, and then be specific and be focused.  Work on getting the skills you need to achieve that target.

Q:  What do you consider the most important quality in a leader?

A: One of the best assets of a leader is the ability to motivate and inspire a team of professionals to work together in achieving the organization’s goals.

Q:  Can you think of a person who has had a tremendous impact on you as a leader? How did this person impact your career?

A: If I had to choose someone that impacted my career, it would be my parents. They encouraged me to push through my comfort zone to reach goals I never knew were possible. Encouragement is key in terms of personal career success.

Q:  What advice would you give to the next generation of women entering a male-dominated profession?

A: Staying confident and never stop learning.

Q:  What’s your favorite way to decompress after a long work week?

A: Sometimes the best way to relax is to simply do what makes you happy, like getting outdoors, exercising, trying a new baking recipe.

Q:  How do you help a new employee understand the culture of your organization?

A:  I find the best way to help new employees understand the culture of our organization is by example. I use our core values and mission statement guide the whole team in delivering extraordinary customer service.
